In 1990 company founder Jez Nelson did an interview with Sun Ra on Jazz FM which had a profound impact on his outlook on music and life. In his centenary year we have some very exciting broadcast activity to celebrate his extensive musical legacy.

Radical composer, electronics pioneer, virtuoso pianist, DIY label visionary, son of Saturn, poet, cult leader – one hundred years since his birth, Sun Ra means many things to many people.

Jazz broadcaster Jez Nelson listens back to his remarkable 1990 Jazz FM interview and meets musicians, promoters and DJs who have – like him – become devoted to Sun Ra. The programme features Gilles Peterson, Jerry Dammers, John Sinclair, James Jacson and Marshall Allen.
