This Is History: A Dynasty to Die For, New Podcast With Best Selling Author and Historian Dan Jones, Launches Today

Somethin’ Else and Sony Music Entertainment today launched their new podcast This is History: A Dynasty to Die For. Hosted by bestselling author and historian Dan Jones, the series explores the story of the most dysfunctional family of the Middle Ages - The Plantagenets – and examines how power, greed, religion and sex fueled their lives with turmoil. Previously described as the “real life Game of Thrones”, the story of The Plantagenets takes listeners on a wild ride as the family leaves a trail of destruction across Europe and beyond, their personal feuds and psychodramas playing out on an epic scale.

The series consists of 24 episodes, two released per week. Each 15-minute installment is packed with drama, following  Henry II – The Plantagenet’s answer to Succession’s  Logan Roy - as he employs charisma, recklessness and strategic masterstrokes to win his crown. His children betray each other in their hunger to take him down, and the family matriarch, Eleanor of Aquitaine, navigates a man’s world to claim her own power.

Despite being England’s longest reigning and most ruthless dynasty, with moments that feel like they’ve been taken straight from The Sopranos playbook, the story of The Plantagenets is still relatively unknown. Jones guides his listeners through this tumultuous period of history in a manner that’s at once compelling and dramatic, as well as accessible and fun. His narration is supported by an impressive, immersive soundscape and score, which transports listeners to medieval England.

Subscribers will get access to a weekly bonus episode, in which Dan divulges more morsels of medieval gossip.
